Through the years, I've put many of my thoughts in poems.

That is why I have so many poems about things around me

I always sign my poems with: "J.O.V.D." (Jeanne Oostvogels van Dijk) and the date

Some thoughts on the

American war cemetery in Margraten

....

I stood there feeling and I could

Only see all those moms and dads

Who thought maybe they would

But prayed they shouldn't lose their lads

.....

And yes I also thought of guys

Who perished on unknown grounds

Could feel pain, and hear their cries

While dying of their wounds

.......

I thought what if they hadn't come

Staying home, growing old and gray

We would have perished and then some

Our freedom would have stayed away

......

Were they heroes or just boys?

Who came here to our rescue.

Did they really have a choice?

A chance to live it through?

......

And as the mother of two sons

I have such deep grateful respect

For those other dads and moms

Whose lives must have been wrecked.

.......

To think that even as I write this

Someone may deny this sacrifice

Will there, if things again go amiss

Be allies that won't think twice

.......

Many now act wise show knowledge

But what they say is so beside the point

Do they really know what they abolish?

How can they mistake what allies once joined?

........

So it seems I only can stop and pray

For those who died and those who grieved

People start reading to know what you say

And that their goodwill again is believed.

Why

A veteran a day

We pay

Attention to

A person that

We call a vet

Did everything for you.

.

His youthful nerve

Made him deserve

A lifelong memory

Much gratitude

No attitude

About undying glory

.

Doubt away

But everyday

Your life has peace

Thank him

Histories dim

But not his memories

.

Some gave all

The living recall

Their never forgotten mates

They know the place

Look on his face

And all the retched dates

.

Brave still

Silently they will

Cary this lonely pain

Our will to memorize

A veterans sacrifice

Shows it was not in vein

.

Why people re-enact

And often collect

Is in honor of those men

Who didn't dare

But still were there

With Garant, pistol or Bren

.

Not to kill

Just at will

But to free us all

They don't ask

But our task

Is a good memorial

.

Happy Veterans Day

Richard

You with memories we don't have

With all your wonderful mails

Make us enjoy those memories

We collect with all its details

...........

You who came over to liberate

and who doesn't believe in war

But still came to our aid

While we were unknown and far

...........

A glimpse sometimes but no story

The memory is there. But don't tell

You don't want us to worry

Because all didn't go always well

...........

The pain, losses and hardship the noise

All those memories, were they worth it

Does it matter, as you have no choice?

That we all still appreciate it?

...........

For our families caught in a war

You were a Gods send on earth

Coming to us from so far

You gave our country new birth

...........

Please feel in your heart our gratitude

Know we are free because of you

Some may forget, have an attitude

But all know in their hearts this is true

...........

Thank you guys !!!

They tear a teardrop

From my eye

And why

I didn't even live the war

And more

I never knew them

But the memory of those

I know

They show

Me all that I should know

The pain

The sorrow

And why? They didn't even

Know us then

Or now

But still they came and stood

They helped

And being free you see

for me

is so good

That's why the teardrops flow

I know

They shed their blood

To free my parents for me

To be

So free

Thank you guys who rest

At best

In fond or forgotten memory

Or still are around to make

Faint sounds of yesterday.

. .

Although we never met him,

We thought we knew him well,

And with genuine fondness,

We think that we may tell,

He was one of the finest,

and nicest men we've known.

And we promise to keep guarding

the kindness he has sown

-------

As one of our liberators,

He would say "Timberwolf up"

His website teached the world,

and his cyberwolf, veteran and pup.

He really deserves a statue

And we will miss him so

So God please take good care of him

He's very special you know.

FRITZ...................

Dear special person in our life,

You send us a good reason,

To realize that lifelong friends,

Can be met after many a season.

-----------------

You became a friend before we were born,

But little did we know about your kindness

We first needed to raise some kids,

Who would solve our historical blindness.

-----------------

They taught us about our past,

And the fight for our liberation,

They asked us to help them contact

People from another generation

-----------------

The warmth that you would bring them,

We could never have imagined at the start,

A word a gesture a picture a story,

Brought you all right in the boy's heart.

-----------------

You are for them a Timberwolf

The symbol of their liberty and freedom

They cherish you and love you all

They'll remember you whatever may come.

-----------------

And you dear Fritz bring many a smile

In this simple household we share

So may we thank you from our heart

that you still are able to care.

Joe
The little sparkle in a star,
that is the kind of friend you are,
The sunray when our days grow dim,
The drain when cups are filled to the brim,
A reason to always go on living
That is the feeling you are giving
You saved our kin and our land
And still you continue to take a stand
That makes us proud that we may say
You personally called us your friends today.

The American Soldier

And first he dreamed of peace on earth

Thought he should try to keep it

And then he dreamed of peace on earth

And figured how to get it

And so his dream went on and on

He started to protect it

His dream was old but he stayed young

And died while he believed in it

And many scorned him for his effort

But he still knew it was worth it.

For what he fought for should one day come

So he kept coming back to fight for it.

And people protested and misunderstood

But he fought on and knew it was good

He didn't fight for sympathy

But for the magic liberty

And looking back in history

He may have sometimes been clumsy

But always reached his goal somehow

And that is why so many now

Are able to protest

Against what he knows is best.

God Bless America

GOD BLESS AMERICA

AND ALL THE PEOPLE IN IT

'COURSE ONCE WHEN WE HAD LOST A WAR

THEY CAME AND HELPED US WIN IT.

THEY HELPED US GAIN OUR FREEDOM

AND ALL THAT FREEDOM CAN ANTAIL

WE CAN NOT STAND AND SEE

THAT TERRORISTS MAKE IT FAIL

WE HOPE TO STAND UNITED

A WORLD AGAINST THOSE FOOLS

AND WITH GODS HELP BEHIND US

WE WILL HAVE ALL THE TOOLS

TO TRACK THEM CATCH THEM CRASH THEM

AND THE TERROR THAT THEY BRING

LETS HOPE WE'LL DO IT SWIFTLY

SO BELLS OF FREEDOM MAY SING.

Christmas,

An old man siting at the fireplace

All his old memories etched in his face.

What he had to go through to become old and wise

It hasn't exactly been the road to paradise

Christmas,

An old woman a lady still busy today,

For she as a woman knows how to hope and to pray

And in her memory she caries days of the past

Some missed but many she's glad they didn't last.

Christmas,

A world so changed since the days of their youth,

Some for the bad and some for the good,

But still the same year after year

Is the spirit of Christmas that brings a bit of cheer.

Christmas,

Although we are younger our days may go fast,

And soon we to will sit there, and look at the past,

We may not be wiser or dumber but dear,

Will be the memories of those who disappear.

Christmas

And so from the past to the future one day,

We'll sit by our fire looking wiser and gray,

And we'll carry the memories and gladly share,

With whoever will listen and whoever will care.

Christmas

And so, long after today, when we're no longer there.

There still will be people who'll know and who'll care,

That the peace they enjoy now did come at a cost.

And they'll cherish it forever because it must not get lost.

Oh stupid life

and beautiful dreams

You never touch

or so it seems

But should you ever

come together

The question is

would it be better?

J.O.V.D.'90

Veterans Day

...

We are in fact all veterans,

but not of war and battle

so we should all appreciate

and call out, maybe rattle

...

Just make a joyful noise

and proudly then call out

not ever again and nowhere

that would make us proud

...

Come peace for all

so no more death

no hatred and fear

with every breath

...

No mother who had

to bury her son

because he had to fight

over a far horizon

...

No father proud

with a heart filled of pain

for a son or daughter

who died in vain.

...

No child that never

really knew a parent

because a terrorist

was on an arrant

...

No memories to haunt

while you grow old

of what you had to do

but never told

...

Just peace for all

and appreciation

for people, religion

and every nation

...

Please don't attend us,

to your religion or color,

true freedom is free,

that's what you go for.

...

Let us just be people

come religion or look

let's try and heal

no matter what it took

...

Start a new world

gone with old sore

and enjoy together

your life so much more

...

So that in 50 years

people may say

why on earth mom or dad

is there a Veterans Day.
