Bryce & Mike Thornton came to the Netherlands with the battlefield tour last year and this year they brought their family.
Here follow the picture and a nice story about Bitterfield Germany 1945.
Bryce & Mike Thornton kwamen vorig jaar naar Nederland met de battlefield tour en dit jaar brachten ze hun familie mee.
Hier volgen enkele foto's en een mooi verhaal over Bitterfield Duitsland 1945.

April 1945. This older girl in Bitterfield Germany, asked Bryce if the children could have leftover food from the mess. --- April 1945 Bitterfield Duitsland. Het oudste meisje in vroeg Bryce of de kinderen misschien het eten konden krijgen wat overbleef van de mess. ( Mess room is eetzaal ) |

Still April 1945. Children waiting for leftover food across the street from the 415th mess. The second boy from the left is Hans Dieter Klaring, who Bryce met for the first time in 49+ years, during the visit to Bitterfield with the 2004 Battlefield tour. --- Nog steeds April 1945. Kinderen wachten op overschot van de mess tent van het 415de regi-ment aan de overkant van de straat. De tweede jongen van links is Hans Dieter Klaring, Bryce ontmoette hem voor het eerst in meer dan 49 jaar toen hij dit jaar oktober in Bitterfield op visite was met de Battlefield tour 2004. |

Hier is een foto van mijn vader Cpl. John C. Dixon, 415TH HQ 2de BN. 104de INF DIV Gemaakt in Keulen, Duitsland. De foto stond in 1945 in de Boston Massachusetts krant.
Nancy Lookabaugh one day wrote: My uncle, John S. Thompson, was KIA in 1945. Mr. Thompson served in L Company, 415th Infantry Regiment and was the weapons platoon leader.
Later we got the following information of Nancy: John S. Thompson, known as Jack, graduated from Struthers High School in the early 1930s. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1942, and trained at Lake Erie, then Fort Snelling, MN, and finally went to Officers' Training School in Fort Benning, GA. He trained troops in camps in Alabama and Florida. Eventually, he wound up in Camp J.T. Robinson in Little Rock, Arkansas, ironically during the time that his sister's husband, Keith Lookabaugh, was also assigned to the camp. With his troops trained and ready to ship off for the European Theater, Jack had the option of continuing as a training instructor in the States or working with his men in battle. He chose the latter and left for Europe in June 1944. Jack served in various armies, and was reassigned several times between the 1st and 5th Armies. During the last days of the war, Jack served in the 1st Army under Gen. Terry de la Mesa Allen. He was a First Lieutenant, and Commander of L Company of the 415th Infantry Regiment of the 104th Division (known as the Timberwolves). He was killed in action at Eibelshausen, Germany on March 30, 1945. You can find his name is on the War War 2 Memorial at Struthers High School.---------------------

Later kregen we de volgende informatie van Nancy: John S. Thompson, beter bekend als Jack, behaalde zijn diploma in Struthers High School begin jaren 1930. He werd opgeroepen in het Amerikaanse leger in 1942, en trainde in Lake Erie, daarna in Fort Snelling, MN, en daarna ging hij naar een Officiers 'Training School' in Fort Benning, GA. He trainde troepen in kampen in Alabama en Florida. Uiteindelijk kwam hij terecht in Camp J.T. Robinson in Little Rock, Arkansas, ironisch genoeg gedurende de tijd dat de man van zijn zus Keith Lookabaugh, ook in het kamp was ingeschreven. Mr. Jim Sullivan wrote: My father served in the 104th Infantry Division during WW2. He was very proud of his service and especially with the Timberwolves. We are not sure where the first picture was taken, but on the back of a copy of this photo it says Belgium. My father's name was Paul W. Sullivan, sergeant 414th Infantry D Company.
With the other 2nd picture he wrote: My father is on the left. But I'm not sure where this was taken, although I think it may have been taken after V-E Day
Meneer Jim Sullivan schreef: Mijn vader diende in de 104de Infanterie Divisie gedurende de 2e wereldoorlog. Hij was erg trots op zijn dienst en vooral op de Timberwolves. We weten niet zeker waar deze foto gemaakt is maar op de achterkant van een zelfde foto staat België. Mijn vaders naam was Paul W. Sullivan, sergeant 414th Infanterie D Compagnie.
Bij de 2de foto schreef hij:. Mijn vader staat links maar ik weet niet zeker waar hij gemaakt is, hoewel ik denk dat hij na V-E dag gemaakt is.
Mr. Kurt A. Dold wrote: On November 5, 1944, PFC JOHN EMIL PARKER, 104th Infantry Division, (Timberwolves), 414th Regiment, Company "B", was killed in action. He was shot by a German sniper in a farmyard in Holland in the vicinity of the Maas River. Click on the picture to go to his website.
